About Lux Saber Corps

As the Bay Area's most prominent LED Saber performance troupe, we interpret duels from our favorite space fantasy films and bring them to the stage. Inspired by the sense of awe and drama that ran through us the first time we saw those scenes, we aim to recreate those feelings for our audiences.

While Lux Saber Corps was founded in 2021, our roots go back to 2011. Many of the current members started in Golden Gate Knights where we learned the basics, perfected our choreography and techniques, and put on acclaimed shows at venues and events that included the California Academy of Sciences, Chabot Planetarium, IGX Sacramento, and Silicon Valley Comic Con.

In early 2021, the pandemic inspired us to re-focus ourselves with a new studio, a new name, and an emphasis on performance. In 2022, we demonstrated our duels at DunDraCon and BayCon to cheering fans. 2023 saw the return of our fan-favorite California Academy of Sciences NightLife performances.

What is Stage Combat?

The first and most important difference between stage combat and sparring is this: Our performers never strike each other with the blades. The polycarbonate saber blades clash and smash into each other, but no performer should ever hit another, even in jest.

Stage combat is a form of storytelling, using a combination of dancing with a partner, acting, body language, and sword fighting to bring a fight scene to life. The people on stage with you are partners in sharing that story with an audience, not opponents.

Is Everything Choreographed?

Not always.

Most of the show is pure choreography in that all performers have memorized parts. The art is really selling it, capturing the speed and intensity of the fight, and making the audience believe it is a duel.

We also teach improvisation. This is an excellent way to learn how to effectively communicate with your partners through motion.

Between choreography and improvisation, we are able to craft and perform a story and convey the drama of a scene in a fluid and structured way while entertaining a crowd. It also allows us to sell the danger of a scene while keeping each other as safe as possible when performing.

Does Everyone Perform?

No, and there are many ways to contribute to the club outside of performance.

But to our knowledge, everyone who has tried performance has ended up loving it!
