Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

Lux Saber Corps maintains a high level of responsibility, ethical behavior, and inclusion. Therefore, members must abide by this Code of Conduct in order to remain in good standing. Participants asked to stop harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately and without retaliation.

Members should always recognize that Lux Saber Corps is a private organization and membership is a privilege, not a social or legal right. Not abiding by the Code of Conduct can revoke this privilege.

  • Constructive and Positive. Members are expected to conduct themselves in a constructive and positive way for performances, classes, and when representing Lux Saber Corps in public

  • Non-Harassing. Harassment of any kind is forbidden, including (but certainly not limited to) bullying, trolling, discrimination, unwelcome sexual attention or advances, or threats when in class or involved in any activities related to Lux Saber Corps (online or offline)

  • Non discrimination. Lux Saber Corps does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), marital status, or sexual orientation, in any of its activities or operations. We will accommodate physical disability where possible. Verbal discrimination or discriminatory symbols will not be tolerated. Members will maintain a good faith effort at desired use of title and gender pronouns for all participants.

  • Class Respect. Members during class must refrain from distracting other members and students participating in the class instruction must follow the instruction given to the best of their ability, and be respectful of the equipment and space.

  • No Dueling. Lux Saber Corps does not engage in contact dueling, fencing or fighting. No one may engage in contact dueling during Lux Saber Corps related activities such as performance events or classes.

  • Sober. All members must be sober and of sound mind and body for classes and performances.

  • Safe Behavior. Anyone at our classes who engages in behavior deemed unsafe by the instructors will be given a verbal warning and, if the unsafe behavior continues, will be required to leave the class if instructed to do so.

  • No Weapons. Functional weapons are prohibited at Lux Saber Corps practice, events, and gatherings. Stage weapons and clearly marked prop weapons are excluded.

  • Personal Issues & Disputes. We recognize that personal issues and disputes may arise whenever groups of people assemble and interact and we encourage resolution between parties. Where issues can not be resolved comfortably between individuals, the issue may be brought to the Board as described below.

Lux Saber Corps’ success hinges on its ability to book class space, conduct classes, book performances, and perform in a safe and professional manner. Examples of disputes that can compromise Lux Saber Corps are active legal cases, criminal history or activity, harassment of other Lux Saber Corps members, or employment that causes a conflict of interest.

Issues that cannot be resolved privately by members, or affect Lux Saber Corps as a club, should be brought to the Board in writing. The Board will confidentially address these issues. For issues involving the Board, concerns can be brought in writing directly to the Sole Proprietor. Each dispute and issue will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Board in a timely manner.

This Code is primarily intended to cover Lux Saber Corps events and spaces, but in extreme cases, the Board may take action to exclude or restrict people from participation based on outside events. Examples include stalking, assault, and targeted harassment via social media.

In order to protect volunteers from abuse and burnout, we reserve the right to reject any report we believe to have been made in bad faith. Reports intended to silence legitimate criticism may be ignored without response.

Conflict Resolution

Disputes, violations of this code, and issues are resolved by the Board. The Board will do a reasonable job of hearing concerns, and then convene, discuss, and by majority vote take action as necessary in a timely manner. These actions primarily are:

  • Warning

  • Temporary or full suspension.

  • Exonerate

  • Decline taking action on the issue

The Board will make decisions in the interest of Lux Saber Corps as a whole, and prioritize the functioning of Lux Saber Corps. The Board is not a court, or forum for settling personal disputes. The Board exists to ensure the ongoing functioning and health of Lux Saber Corps.
